a little about me...

It all began in my grandmother's bedroom, passion. Early on in my life, I fell deeply in awe with the magic of media. I have been peculiarly intrigued with the impact it has on the lives of others and myself, from there the love grew. The passion I have for storytelling and my desire to curate media all began there. But who am I? Well, I'm a young woman born and raised in Miami, Florida, I'm a proud Jamaican which sparked my love and appreciation for not only Caribbean culture, but all culture and traditions globally. I take personal enjoyment in creating, writing and producing meaningful, purposeful, and effective content.

I'd like to think I am more than that alone. Through my journey I find myself at Michigan State University exploring and expanding my various skills. Through these developing times I've dabbled in other hobbies such as being an athlete on the Michigan State Track and Field Jumps team while working as a Street Team Member in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences. I've gone on to work as the Student Assistant for my college's Office of Diversity Equity, Inclusion where I manage social media accounts and engage diverse student audiences to promote opportunities and student success through presenting representation in inclusive initiatives.

I have routed my studies toward the peak of my skills in Media Design where I have nailed by capability to allow my works' designs to be driven by content consideration. I am passionate about typography, magazine and news design, powerful graphics, and creating what matters.

Thank you for your interest in my abilities. Please feel free to surf through more about my past and present works throughout this site. Feel free to contact me or even provide feedback, I'm all ears.

Why Kefi Kalinaw?

As a creative, and before I say this I think creatives reading this can relate to the gut feeling that you are more than your given name. You are composed of a one in a million personality with skillsets and mannerisms all unique to what you convey—and what you dont.

Kefi is a feeling, a word derived from early Greek culture that means joy, spirit, passion, happiness, triumph, mojo, excitement, feeling good, having fun, or loving life. Each description embodies who I am as well my morals and values. I’m quite the optimistic individual so leading my pen name for blogs and passion posts with Kefi is how I want to set the tone as I present me to you!

I not only encourage you to live a life full of as much kefi as you can by choosing positive experiences that benefit you when you’re feeling up or down or even when the timing isn’t ideal.

Kalinaw, which I sometimes shorten to Kali for a nickname flow of “Kefi Kali”, is an adjective defined as calmness, composure, peace, tranquility, smoothness and serenity. I truly believe as the world we live in evolves we find more ways to overload ourselves in a toxic fashion until we stop and realize the strain we put on ourselves. When I stumbled across these two words one day on Pinterest It only felt right to hang onto this word in particular to remind myself that can choose peace and live a softer life where I exude and surround myself with good energy personally, professionally, and creatively.
